Fools Gold

posted Friday, 22 May 2009

Fools' Gold - noun: "Something that appears valuable, but is worthless. Its shiny, yellow luster has fooled many into believing they have struck gold while in fact, they are holding something of little value."

Folks, that pretty well sums up the present administration and the legion of dumbocrat minions that are running our government.

 Why you ask?

... They told us we should spend billions because we couldn't let Chrysler go bankrupt, and then they let Chrysler go bankrupt.

... They forced Fannie and Freddie to buy sub prime loans, and then blamed Fannie and Freddie for buying sub prime loans.

... They said the financial crisis was without precedent and that it required urgent action. Then they passed a gazillion dollar bailout bill without reading it so they could go on vacation.

... They espouse that one can be legally illegal. They want to grant more rights to an illegal alien than they do to legal immigrants.

... They say that former service men and women should be open to investigation by Homeland Security as possible terrorists while our borders remain wide open.

... They pass out federal tax refunds to folks that haven't paid federal taxes.

... They are of the opinion that a kid should be able to have an abortion at thirteen without their parent's knowledge, while at the same time, they must get a written note from their parents if they miss school.

... They feel it's wrong to get water up the noses of our enemies ... terrorists who have blown up crowds of people with suicide bombs and beheaded US citizens.

... They claim that other methods of interrogation work better, yet they have no idea what these techniques are.

... They want to convince us that whatever has gone wrong will always be Bush's fault. However, realizing that there's more to governing than campaigning, the former community-organizer-turned-president is supporting more and more of Bush's lawless War-On-Terror programs.

Surprised? Don't be. Here's how it's done: first you vigorously denounce the Bush policy. Then you strip it down to the bare metal, sand off the rough spots, prime it and paint it a different color. Wrap it in sham-wow rhetoric and roll it out as something totally new that belongs to you.

"Aw c'mon. Like what?" you ask.

Like the restoration of military tribunals that were suspended by Obama soon after his swearing in ceremony. Like claiming you're now going to disallow evidence gathered during intense interrogation. (Nothing new ... military judges presently have this authority and have exercised it repeatedly.) Like flip-flopping on the Patriot Act, wiretaps, e-mail intercepts, predator drone attacks, slowing the withdrawal in Iraq, implementing a surge in Afghanistan. And the list goes on. In fact, many Washington observers are stunned by how much of the Bush national security agenda is being adopted by none other than Sir Hopenchange.

The New Republic added these Bushisms to the list: "rendition - turning over terrorists seized abroad to foreign countries; state secrets - claiming them in court to quash legal proceedings on rendition and other erstwhile barbarisms; and the denial of habeas corpus - to detainees in Afghanistan's Bagram prison, indistinguishable logically and morally from Guantanamo."

And speaking of Guantanamo, and the terrorist wannabes that are held there, opposition inside the beltway is gathering to Obama's plan to close the much maligned facility. Some in the dumbocrat-ruled Congress are openly questioning the wisdom of the President's decision. Why? Well, in many cases, the terrorist's own homeland won't let them back in. Liberal Europe doesn't want ‘em, and evidently no one in this Congress wants them housed in their backyard either.

Just this week, the Senate voted ninety to six to deny the administration the funds it needed to shut down Gitmo ... at least until the president tells them where he intends to place the inmates. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, one of the mindless minions that is usually in lockstep with Obama said this: "no Gitmo inmates on American soil - not even in American jails."

Bottom line? The War-On-But Terror policies of Old George Bush may not have been as stupid as this White House claimed. As George Krauthammer observed, "If hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue, then the flip-flops on previously denounced anti-terror measures are the homage that Barack Obama pays to George Bush."

How's he getting away with it? Folks, one thing Sir Hopenchange does well; he never admits what he's doing publicly. Or if he does, it's so tightly wrapped in brilliant rhetoric that no one can see through the camouflage. Prime examples are his public statements on abortion and stem cell research.

According to the media, here is what Sir Hopenchange said at Notre Dame to quell the bitterness and the harsh words: "We must stop reducing those with differing views to caricature. Open hearts. Open minds. Fair-minded words. It's a way of life that always has been the Notre Dame tradition."

Wait a minute; let's not forget what our differing views are.  Sir Hopenchange is pro-abortion, supporting it even in its most heinous form, partial-birth abortion. Notre Dame and the Catholic Church are pro-life.

Hear again his words from a campaign speech:

"I've got two daughters. Nine years old and six years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

Punished with a baby! Hey all you blue-state moms, can you believe that? Can you believe your President said that? While we're at it, here is what he had to say on the subject of embryonic stem cell research:

"Rather than furthering discovery, our government has forced what I believe is a false choice between sound science and moral values. In this case, I believe the two are not inconsistent. As a person of faith, I believe we are called to care for each other and work to ease human suffering."

What will this experimentation guarantee us in terms of our future health? Let's look again at the President's own comments for the answer:

"I cannot guarantee that we will find the treatments and cures we seek. No president can promise that ... and with the urgency required to make up for lost ground ..."

No guarantees, but we need urgency (there's that word again).

Our founding fathers believed in the sanctity of life, no matter how weak, no matter how small. "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is one of the most famous phrases they placed in our Declaration of Independence. They called them the "inalienable rights" of man.

Even though Sir Hopenchange has shown little or no regard for the Constitution, on these and other issues he is caught between a rock and a hard place ... between two powerful forces and their conflicting ideas. Politically, it's a no win situation regardless of how much he and his minions wish they could quell the controversy and dispense with them.

In the commencement speech at at Notre Dame, the President said we had to stop reducing those with differing views to caricature. Let me be clear: In my opinion, when it comes to abortion, those with differing views - those that would take away the breath of life from the weakest among us - have violated the Sixth Commandment, the one that says "Thou shalt not kill." My faith says that someday, they'll answer for it and be dealt with accordingly.

Back in November, a little over fifty-percent of the voters were blinded by the shiny yellow luster of Sir Hopenchange. But as Shakespeare wrote in The Merchant of Venice, and that we see for ourselves with every day that passes, "All that glitters is not gold."
