Who was William Long?

posted Sunday, 7 June 2009

If you don't read O'Reilly or watch Fox News, you probably don't know. Private William Long was killed last Monday. Not in Iraq or Afghanistan ... not by a roadside bomb or RPG. No, he was killed right here in the heartland, just down the road from where Mike Huckabee and the "Little Rockers" grew up.

"He saw them standing there and drove up and shot them." That's what Lt. Terry Hastings told the Associated Press following the shooting of William Long, age twenty-three, and Quinton Ezeagwula, age eighteen, as they stood outside an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock. Long died in the melee and Ezeagwula was wounded.

The shooter was Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, a man said to be upset with the U.S. military over political and religious issues. Previously known as Carlos Bledsoe, Muhammad was a recent convert to Islam. In interviews with police, he told the cops that he killed Private Long and wounded another soldier because of what the U.S. military had done to Muslims. The killer had recently returned from studying jihad in Yemen - a country right next to Saudi Arabia, the first stop in the recent trip to Islamoland by Sir Hopenchange.

The two soldiers who were shot had been to that part of the world. They'd never been to Yemen or Saudi Arabia; Iraq or Afghanistan. They'd never seen combat. They'd only completed their basic training within the past two weeks and both came from towns nearby.

They were standing on the sidewalk outside the Army-Navy recruiting center where they worked, hoping to attract others to the military, when around 10:20 a.m., a black vehicle pulled up outside the curb and opened fire. Long fell prostrate onto the sidewalk; Ezeagwula was able to crawl to the door. An assault rifle and other weapons were later found in Mohammed's vehicle.

The accused shooter's father, Melvin Bledsoe of Memphis, Tennessee, reportedly hung up on a reporter who called to ask about his son's arrest for such a wanton killing.

(Notice how all the reports about this incident call the shooter "a man with political and religious issues" but they don't say "terrorist". Now contrast this with the way the murder of the abortion doctor in Kansas was reported. Google that incident, you'll see several articles about the murder with "terrorist" in the headline.) Very strange? Very strange, indeed.

Or is it?

Note what Sir Hopenchange had to say about both incidents - the killer of Kansas doctor George Tiller and the killer of Private William Long. Within two hours of the murder of the abortionist in Kansas, he made this statement:

"I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence."

Not two hours, but two days after Private William Long's murder, Sir Hopenchange had this to say:

"I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe. I would like to wish Quinton Ezeagwula a speedy recovery, and to offer my condolences and prayers to William Long's family as they mourn the loss of their son."

"Saddened"? "Senseless act of violence"? What a limp-wristed pile of crap! Perhaps Sir Hopenchange didn't want to offend his new-found constituents in Islamoland! According to SOCAL Freelance Blogger, La Shawn Barber, this is what Sir Hopenchange should have said to the nation about Private Long:

"I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Private William Long as he performed his duty. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as sending our men and women overseas to preserve our freedom, protect others from tyranny, and contain global Islamic terrorism, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence."

Why the delay? Why the limp-wristed response? Perhaps Obama was too busy bowing and scraping to the Saudi king, apologizing and making excuses for brave men and women like Private William Long.

Upon hearing the news about the terrorist's assassination of Private Long, perhaps instead of continuing to kowtow to the towelheads, Sir Hopenchange should have gassed-up Air Force One with some of that cheap middle-eastern gas and headed to little Rock ... to the place where yet another peace-loving Muslim had ended the life of U.S. soldier - this time right in the young man's back yard.

Townhall columnist Diana West agrees. She says that in another address to the Muslim world, this time from downtown Little Rock, Sir Hopenchange should have declared that the era of Islamic jihad is over. "... that Private Long had not died in vain, that his memory would be served by a new American resolve to join with its kindred allies in liberty to contain and ultimately reverse the militarily- and demographically pressed advance of Sharia (Islamic law) across the non-Muslim world."

Ms. West concludes, "But such a pilgrimage to the heart of America to denounce jihad obviously doesn't interest Barack Obama. Not when he could make a pilgrimage to the heart of Islam where jihad is a sacred institution."

While some analysts have expressed the opinion that Muhammad was suffering from what they describe as "sudden jihad syndrome" - Fox News has reported that Muhammad was not acting alone, that his act was part of a larger jihad plot to attack military personnel as the attack on Long and Ezeagwula was the second attack by Muslims on US soil in two weeks.

KumBaya, Mr. President. Sleep well tonight ... pray that the American Military whom you hold in such disdain will keep Americans at home and those winning the peace inside the war torn cradle of Islam safe and secure.

Here's a link to an interview with Private Long's father, Daris Long. If Mr. Long is any indication, young William was probably one helluva soldier already. FROM KATV IN LITTLE ROCK
